Tim Boling, CEO

Tim Boling was hired as Compeer CEO in 2016. His focus is on the bigger picture of Compeer around strategic planning, board development, local and national funding and leadership. In his dual role leading Compeer Buffalo affiliate program, Tim is looking forward to continuing to nurture the long-standing, existing relationships with the community as he forges new ones on local, national and international levels.

Cheri Alvarez, Chief Program Officer

Cheri recently became part of Compeer’s leadership team as the organization’s Chief Program Officer. A results-oriented professional, Cheri’s strengths include operations, systems, funding, staff and relationship development, evaluation, and collaborations. She is a Buffalo Business First “40 Under 40” awardee (2015), and a graduate of the Health Foundation of Western and Central N.Y. Leadership Fellows program. Cheri will work with both the international office and Buffalo affiliate local program.

Johanna Ambrose, Director, Compeer International Office

Johanna Ambrose joined Compeer in 2005 and was appointed director of Compeer NYS Programs in 2007. She led Compeer Inc. from 2013-16, spearheading its transition and ultimate merger with Compeer West, Inc., completed in Fall 2016. Johanna continues oversight of affiliate network initiatives, communications, and daily office operations. Her background is in advertising, media, public relations, and development.

Barb Mestler, Affiliate Program Specialist, Compeer Coordinator Compeer Livingston

Barb has a rich history with Compeer. As the Compeer Affiliate Program Specialist, Barb conducts training for new staff, fields program questions, and assists with problem-solving. Barb recently celebrated 15 years as Compeer of Livingston County Program Director. She has been with Compeer since its beginning in the 1970s, and takes pride in being a long-term one-to-one volunteer with the Compeer Rochester program.

Nancy Dhurjaty, Project Specialist

Nancy joined Compeer after many years in corporate marketing. As Project Specialist, Nancy coordinates the annual survey process, data and reporting. She gets involved in special projects and continues to get to know and serve the needs of affiliates while endeavoring to enhance program quality and the overall Compeer experience for all constituents.

Rachel Gacloch, Web-Based Outreach Coordinator/Cultural Awareness Specialist

Rachel joined Compeer as an AmericorpsVISTA ServeNY member. Subsequently hired by Compeer, she is responsible for the development and implementation of web-based communication and outreach for the organization, as well as maintenance of its social media presence. Rachel is the contact for Compeer Connects, the international affiliate newsletter.

Bernice Skirboll, Compeer’s Founder

Bernice “Bunny” Skirboll founded Compeer nearly 40 years ago following a near-fatal automobile accident. Her long rehabilitation helped her realize the power of friendship, and she vowed to make a difference in other people’s lives. Skirboll serves as executive director since Compeer’s inception. Under her leadership, Compeer grew from a small program to an internationally recognized mental health agency. She holds a master’s degree from the University of Rochester and has received numerous professional awards. Bernice wrote a book about Compeer, “Compeer: Recovery Through the Healing Power of Friends,” which the University of Rochester Press published in 2006.
